1. Why undertake the strategic visioning process now?

This moment calls for clarity, courage, and long-term thinking. As historically excluded communities face overlapping crises, philanthropy must meet urgent needs while staying focused on what we are working to build. This strategic visioning process allows us to pause, reflect, and think boldly about how Weingart can better align its resources, decisions, and partnerships to advance a thriving multiracial democracy and fulfill our commitment to racial, social, and economic justice for all.

2. Why take a future-focused approach to the strategic visioning process?

We believe that advancing justice and a multiracial democracy requires intentionally shaping the future, not only responding to today’s challenges. By envisioning an ideal future alongside our partners and working backward, we can align our resources, decisions, and culture with long-term impact. This approach allows us to stay grounded in our values while building strategies that are adaptable, relevant, and responsive to the communities we serve.

3. Is grantmaking continuing during the strategic visioning process?

Yes. Our day-to-day work with partners continues as usual during this period. Existing grants, relationships, and commitments remain in place, and we are continuing to make new grants and investments while the visioning is underway. This process is intended to clarify and strengthen our long-term direction—not slow decisions, reduce support, or step away from the communities and movements we partner with.

4. How is community input being used?

Insights shared during the visioning sessions are directly informing the development of Weingart’s strategic framework. Themes raised by community partners are shaping how we define our long-term priorities, how we assess tradeoffs, and how we align our resources with our values.

5. When will the strategic visioning process be finalized, and when will it take effect?

This spring, we will present the proposed strategic framework to Weingart’s Board for strategic consideration. We expect to finalize the new strategic framework by the end of our fiscal year in June and make a public announcement in our new fiscal year, which begins in July 2026.

6. How will partners continue to be engaged before and after the launch?

Partners can expect multiple opportunities to stay engaged before and after the public launch of the strategic framework. This includes sharing updates as the framework is finalized, hosting virtual community sessions following the launch, and continuing dialogue as the framework begins to guide our work. We are committed to transparency, shared learning, and ongoing partnership throughout this process.
