President’s Message from Fred Ali
LA County Moves Toward Full-Cost Funding for Nonprofits

In this month's President’s Message, Fred Ali announces a new motion recently passed by the LA County Board of Supervisors to help strengthen nonprofit service in the county. The motion supports the implementation of new federal rules regarding how government agencies reimburse nonprofits for the full cost of their work. The county's action comes on the heels of a report recently released by the Urban Institute that finds that roughly seven in 10 nonprofits in California say that the government funding they receive fails to cover the full cost of their services. To read Fred’s Message, click here.

Learning and Assessment Webinar

On September 15, Weingart Foundation held a webinar to share our new Learning and Assessment Framework. The framework is designed to assess how the Foundation’s unrestricted grants contribute to strengthening organizational effectiveness, and our learnings will inform our practices as a funder as well as be shared with the field. Special thanks to the over 200 participants who joined us on the webinar — we also greatly appreciated your many questions and comments. Webinar materials, including a full recording of the session, are available on our website.
