What We Are Learning
Investing in Equity
For nearly 70 years, the Weingart Foundation has focused on strengthening Southern California’s communities of opportunity by providing support to the nonprofit organizations which serve them. Our efforts are guided by listening to and learning from grantees, information that in recent years has indicated greater disparities in the provision of health, education and other human services, and economic and criminal justice systems. The Foundation responded by making a full commitment to racial and socio-economic equity in 2016—a long-term effort to base policy and program decisions on achieving fairness, inclusion and opportunity for communities in the region, particularly those with the least amount of resources. In support of this effort, Nonprofit Finance Fund (N.F.F.) partnered with the Weingart Foundation to assess the challenges and opportunities facing Southern California nonprofits, how the Foundation’s grantmaking strategies are addressing needs in the region, and how they can advance equity.
