June 2013 Vice President, Grant Operations’ Message

We are happy to share the Vice President, Grant Operations’ Message, now on the Weingart Foundation home page, which highlights our just-released FY2014 Grant Plan. The development of the Grant Plan is a process that the Foundation undergoes annually in order to develop our strategic grantmaking priorities for the coming year.

Our grant planning process begins with identifying needs, opportunities and trends within the Southern California nonprofit community, primarily through frequent and ongoing communication with our grantees. Click here to read the complete Vice President of Grant Operations’ Message.

The Weingart Foundation Launches Refreshed Website

We are pleased to announce our newly updated website, which features a refreshed design and expanded content. Significantly, we have added a new section, Working With the Weingart Foundation to the site. This overview complements the grant guidelines and application information presented in Our Grantmaking. It is designed to provide applicants with a better understanding of the Foundation’s application assessment and review process.

Small Grant Program – New Application Process

Towards the end of this summer, the Foundation will begin accepting and processing Small Grant Program (SGP) applications on an ongoing basis throughout the year -- rather than operating on a deadline-based system. As a responsive grantmaker, Weingart Foundation regularly reviews and adjusts our grantmaking procedures in order to better support our grantees and applicants. We believe that offering organizations the ability to apply to the SGP throughout the year, without deadlines, will provide nonprofits with increased flexibility and a faster response time.

The primary purpose and priorities of the SGP, to increase access to funding and to support the capacity of small, community-based, and developing organizations serving low-income communities, remain unchanged. At this time, we are transitioning our internal processes as we complete the April - August 2013 grant cycle. An announcement will be made next month with details on the new process including the date when we will begin accepting new applications.

Weingart Foundation Releases Comprehensive Grants Statistical Report

The Weingart Foundation regularly analyzes its grantmaking - for learning and assessment as well as planning. In the interest of transparency and increased information sharing, we are pleased to present our Comprehensive Grants Statistical Report to the broader nonprofit and philanthropic communities. This report provides statistics and highlights trends related to the Foundation’s grantmaking in FY 2012 compared to the previous five and one-half year period. Click here to read the full report.
