Weingart Foundation Board of Directors Changes We are pleased to announce that Steven L. Soboroff has been appointed the Chairman of the Weingart Foundation Board of Directors effective July 1, 2007. Steve joined the Board of Directors in December 2001.
Effective June 30, 2007, William D. Schulte retired from the Weingart Foundation Board of Directors after many years of distinguished service. Bill served on the Board since 1998, and during his tenure chaired both the Audit and Investment Committees, prior to being elected Chairman in January 2004. His expertise, community service and enthusiasm will be greatly missed.
Fiscal Year 2007 We are pleased to report that fiscal year 2007 (July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2007) was one of the most productive in the Foundation’s history. The Board of Directors approved a total of $58 million in grants and almost $45 million in grants were paid out during the year! In addition to making numerous grants to Southern California agencies through its responsive grant making program, the Foundation supported a number of special initiatives including gang prevention and intervention, Skid Row homeless health care, developmental disabilities and urban school districts. Later in the summer, the Foundation will publish a complete list of fiscal year 2007 grants in the annual report, which will be posted on this website.
Staffing Changes Terrie Doizaki, who joined us in April 2006 as a Program Associate, was promoted to Program Officer effective in May 2007.
Many of you may already know that Lucy Aquino, after more than 30 years with the Weingart Foundation, has retired. Consuelo Gennaro became the new Executive Assistant in April. Before joining the Weingart Foundation, Consuelo worked at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.
If you have called or visited the Weingart Foundation recently, you may have already talked to Derrick Smith, our new Receptionist. Derrick came to us through a temporary agency and we are very pleased that he has now joined our staff.
Finally, Sara Montrose joins the Foundation as a Program Associate on August 1. Sara comes to the Foundation having worked in various programmatic capacities at Voices for Children in San Diego. She also has teaching experience in Buenos Aires and New York City.
