The Current Nonprofit Landscape—A Teleconference with Fred Ali
As the new year begins, join Fred Ali, the Foundation’s president and CEO, for an open teleconference call with nonprofit leaders on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 from 10-11:30 a.m. Feedback from nonprofits on the call will help inform our work as we develop the Foundation’s Program Plan for the upcoming fiscal year. Capital Grant Program Reopens
The Foundation’s Capital grantmaking program, which funds new construction and renovations to existing structures, is now accepting letters of inquiry (LOIs) for support. In order to better align the program with our commitment to equity, the Foundation will now only consider Capital grant requests that: 1) will bring new or expanded services to under-resourced communities; and 2) where project completion is unlikely without Weingart Foundation support. The program was temporarily closed last year due to the large volume of requests in review. With this re-opening, the program remains highly competitive with limited dollars available. Grant decisions and payments regarding incoming Capital requests will likely be issued starting in summer or fall of 2017. For more information, click here.
Understanding the Full Cost of Social Impact: A Funder + Grantee Pilot
In 2016, the Weingart Foundation, in partnership with the California Community Foundation and Nonprofit Finance Fund, developed the Full Cost Funder/Grantee Pilot. This project brought together nonprofit and foundation staff to engage in joint trainings and open discussions about full cost service delivery and grantmaking—all as part of our larger initiative to promote funding that better reflects and supports the full costs incurred by nonprofits. The Pilot worked with Harder+Company to evaluate this effort and elevate considerations for the future implementation and scaling of this and similar initiatives. To read Harder’s report, click here.
